I have never written a blog before, so I hope you will be gentle with me on how this is done.
When I sat down to think about what my first blog could be about, one thing came to mind, and that was a recent photo shoot / trip I took to Arizona. This trip will definitely be one that I never forget.
I went on a photography adventure with my buddy Cullen from Des Moines, Iowa through Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico for the sole purpose of starting my new career as a full time photographer with some sort of excitement. He had already scheduled a photo shoot with Dame & Maiden in Phoenix, Arizona and me being me I jumped at the opportunity to tag along and not only learn but also shoot.
I have built my passion for photography around portraiture, and it has quickly become one of my favorite genres to shoot. I think it comes down to seeing the persons reaction to what you just were able to capture, to me that is part of the excitement of being a photographer. This photo shoot was no different.
Lost Dutchman State Park sits at the base of the Superstition Mountains, just outside of Mesa, Arizona and I remember as we pulled up to where were going to be shooting, I was in absolute awe of the beauty in that area. The mountains seem to sit upright in a very majestic and dignified manner, showing that they are capable of standing the test of time.
While the area is obviously very rugged, what I loved about this fashion photo shoot, was that in the midst of this desert, we placed beautiful and elegant, handmade wedding dresses. You wouldn't think that the two could coexist, yet I think thats what made these photographs so interesting.
I think people look at photographs, and while they might see the same image, they may not see the same thing. The photographs that I captured that day to me, are some of my favorites that I have taken to date. The setting of the dresses in that topography, mixed with the tones of the desert and blues of the sky are absolutely beautiful. I hope you enjoy them.
